Creating Connections

Goals: Creating interfaith communication, connection, and partnership.
Creating loving, courageous, and mindful leaders.
Creating healthy identities and relationships.

The UUA’s Toolbox of Faith and UU Values Challenge will be used in tandem for the 4-5th grade class, who will meet in the second floor Sky Room. The UU Values Challenge was created to be inclusive to neurodiverse youth and add in content about the new Article II values to established curriculums. These youth will also participate in organizing the annual Toy Sale Event in December.

The 6-7th graders will be in the Diversity Room, floor 3. They will be using an original curriculum created by our DRE called Change Makers. This course is part of how Spiritual Pathways is implementing First U’s Strategic Plan. Change Makers teaches youth the skills that they will need to be activists through discussion-based activities. The course culminates in a class created and youth-led service project in the Spring.

The 8th graders will be completing the Our Whole Lives curriculum; a comprehensive, lifespan sexuality education curricula that is used in both secular settings and faith communities. First U believes that honest, accurate information about sexuality changes lives. It dismantles stereotypes and assumptions, builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters healthy relationships, improves decision making, and has the potential to save lives [www.uua.org/re/owl]. This class will meet on the third floor in the Moon Room. These youth and their families will host the annual winter Talent Show fundraiser.
