With Leo (12) becoming a bass, Chloe (18) about to head to college, a 25th wedding anniversary, and a 60th birthday, 2021 will go down as a year of transitions for our household. I’m trying to live up to my own father’s warmth, grace, and humor when my sister and I left our family’s orbit and explored our independence. It’s harder than he made it look.

He has shown up less regularly since moving to Arizona in 2017, where he is on the faculty at Arizona State University and attends the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix.
