First Unitarian begins a new church year — its 298th — on Sunday, September 9, at 10:30am with a special homecoming and water communion service. During the intergenerational service, all in attendance will be invited to share a small amount of actual or symbolic water from a place meaningful to them from the summer. The combined waters will be purified and used for child dedications during the year.
For this first service of the new church year, everyone traditionally gathers on the lawn in front of the church where they are welcomed by Rev. Liz Lerner Maclay and invited to process with her into the sanctuary, known as the Meeting House. Children over age 3 are invited to attend this homecoming service with their family. Childcare will be provided for children age 3 and under.
