CHRISTIANE CORBAT
1945-2006

“It is my belief that Art helps manifest what we truly long for and that it can help heal the world. As an artist, my intention to help shift world consciousness towards peace became resolute in 1990 when I attended a week-long conference /retreat with Noble Prize nominee, Thich Nhat Hahn.

“The Global Heart Project addresses our personal role in creating peace.  It suggests the possibility that peace on earth starts with peace in our own life, implying that peace will come as we realize how each of us is an important player in the creation of our collective reality.  What we create in our own lives is reflected out in the world in the same way that a stone cast  in a pond creates waves that effect the entire pond.  We are all interconnected

“In making this project each subject was asked to make a gesture that represents a unique manner of holding peace in that person’s life.  Each casting symbolizes the hundreds of thousands of people who long for a world of justice, harmony, freedom and mutual respect.”

ANNE MIMI SAMMIS
1940 -2023

Mimi Sammis believed that art depicting love and joy has a positive effect on its viewers, and her work is full of joy, creativity and the appreciation of nature. Her artwork brings peace to those who view it, and this brings Mimi closer to accomplishing her goal of inspiring peace in the world.

Mimi’s sculptures are a celebration of life and the human spirit. The influence of Rodin and Degas can be seen in the solidity of her work, yet her sense of balance and movement is unique.
“Anne Mimi Sammis’ sculpture embraces a form of peace, the inherent goodness and readiness of love and acceptance in humankind. Mimi’s art makes us all wish for a continuation of the UN’s mission of peace in every nook and cranny of this world.” – Agnes Gund, President of the Museum of Modern Art, New York
“The creative energy that Mimi Sammis finds in the process of bronze casting is reflected in her exuberant yet graceful figurative sculptures. Whether they are dancing with abandon or reaching for the heavens, Sammis’ human forms express a freedom of movement that becomes a metaphor for the artist’s spiritual convictions.” – Nancy Whipple Grinnell, Curator Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI

SUSAN E. FOX
Founder
EcoLand Art Project

Eco-Land Art sites are interactive garden-like spaces, merging earth and art. They are designed to support exploration of our senses and encourage interaction with sculpted earth shapes, aromatic plantings and appreciation of shared habitats.

The vision for this work is to give new life to underutilized spaces. Languishing areas can be rejuvenated into beautiful sanctuaries and synergistic experiences that inspire not only calm and centeredness but foster creative expression as well.

Earth Art uses local natural materials — stones, birmed earth, and native plantings — to create “green” forms of artistic expression. These projects are intended to offer meaningful ways for everyone to engage with the natural world.

The inspiration for this work came from Susan’s visit to The Garden of Cosmic Speculation in Scotland a number of years ago. She was so impressed by the joyful experience of individuals and families as they explored the spiral mountains, fractal lakes and art walkways of this amazing garden. “I want to bring this idea home!” And she has!
