Artist Statement for Jason Rice
My photography weaves together passing reflections, coincidences, body language, which is unique to the people on the street because these images tell me so much. I work mostly in Manhattan, which is endlessly horizontal, vertically sprawling, and concrete – its beauty is often found somewhere between the searing loneliness of the day-to-day goings on and the urgency of what’s next. I graduated from The Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Photography, 1991. I worked in the South of France teaching photography, and spent three years working in the New York City film and television business (circa 1990’s) most notably, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, the Joan Rivers Show, Can We Shop? and the feature Flirting With Disaster. I am currently working in the book business on the East Coast of the United States, for Ingram, selling their wholesale services to independent bookstores.
Artist Statement for Bill Rice (Father of Jason)
Bill Rice, 1939-2024, was passionate about many things but photography was preeminent after family. He studied photography at Cranbrook Academy of Art before moving to Rhode Island. For a time, he managed the Photographic Services Dept. at Brown and then opened his own studio on Thayer Street. In his artistic photography, he preferred taking closeups of flowers but also loved photographing grasses, fascinated by their movement. He had unusually steady hands which he used to advantage to capture crisp images. He had a solo show of these images called “A Close Look” at the Coffee Depot in Warren in 2003. Later, when that steadiness lessened with age, he began photographing the many birds attracted by our feeders and played with making images that were the opposite of crisp. He would be so proud to know that his images are being shown along with those of his son, Jason.

She gives talks on sustainability, insects, and climate change, and offers professional development to teachers.
