Trainings, Monday, September 17, 7–8:30p & Sunday, October 21, 12:15–1:45pm

Thanks to the hard work and perseverance of many, we officially and publicly declared our church ready to provide Sanctuary for a person or family at risk of deportation this past June Welcoming a person or family to live within our church walls will require the support of many volunteers. Our focus this summer has been on reaching out to other faith communities in order to build our volunteer base and to promote the work of justice. We have been successful in these efforts and have held trainings in other locations to inform interested faith communities about what we are doing and how they can help. We now have volunteers from the Jewish Alliance and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Greenville. We look forward to training more people in the autumn. If you are interested in becoming more involved, we have two orientation trainings coming up on September 17 and October 21.

We don’t know when, or even if, we will be called upon to provide a safe and welcoming refuge for a person or family in need. We do know that we need to be ready, should the need arise, and to promote justice whenever possible. If you have questions, or would like to find out about additional trainings, email firstusanctuary@gmail.com.
