For more than 200 years the First Unitarian Church of Providence has performed ceremonies for members and non-members of differing faiths. Our historic meeting house, constructed in the late 1700s, seats 750 people (including the balcony) and has an outstanding organ and Steinway piano. We welcome the larger community to our facilities, making our space available for weddings and ceremonies of union. Our antique-filled parlors and elegant glass-walled atrium offer rooms for smaller ceremonies and receptions. Those who are not members of the church pay a rental fee.

The congregation’s minister is generally available for member ceremonies only. However, a list of experienced Unitarian Universalist ministers available to officiate at your ceremony can be provided. If you have a minister you would like to bring in, additional information will be provided. Our Music Director is a Brown University professor and works with an array of soloists should you wish to hire him. If you choose to bring your own organist, by the American Guild of Organist guidelines, you will be required to pay ours 50% of the normal fee. If he is not available, we can provide the names of excellent alternate musicians. The church has a full sound system (CD and tape players) for your use. Our building manager will assist you during your rehearsal (generally the evening before) and on the day of your ceremony.

Our facility provides parking spaces for 25 cars. There is plenty of on-street parking on the weekends. We do have smaller alternate spaces available for ceremonies as well as receptions, and a full-service kitchen. All buildings are handicap accessible. We do not allow confetti of any kind inside the church but do allow flower petals or birdseed outside only. There is no smoking allowed anywhere on the grounds.

Includes the wedding rehearsal, the hour before the wedding for your florist and guests to arrive, and the hour of the wedding

Please Note
All building rental fees are payable to the First Unitarian Church. Payments to the minister, building manager, and organist should be made payable to the individual providing the service. All final payments are due two weeks prior to your reserved date.
